Objectives
- To offer a scholarship to high school/college students.
- To promote girl-child education.
- To ensure the sustainability of the fund through the establishment of an endowment fund.
Our History
The Farming Systems Kenya Students Education Program, The Mugos Fellowship Education Fund was launched in September 2004 .The fellowship was established due to high demand of needy students within the communities. The founders are Mr.& Mrs. Paul and Irene Mugo who are also the patrons of the Fellowship.
The Farming Systems Kenya Student Scholarship Program have the following activities
- Allocation of bursaries and monitoring of beneficiaries
- Conducting mentorship programs which are carried out annually
- Fundraising; FSK staff together with well-wishers has been working towards Kitty’s growth and expansion to enable the Fellowship support as many students as possible. The fundraising committee organizes fundraising events such as Luncheons, Dinners, Walks, and Breakfast.
Beneficiaries
Over 700 students have benefited from this program.
This beneficiaries mostly come from needy family backgrounds. Their parents or guardians are either self-employed in Jua Kali sectors or are peasant farmers in the rural/urban areas. Among the beneficiaries also include orphaned children whose parents have been claimed by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Others come from single-parent headed families.
Exemplary support by FSK
The Farming Systems Kenya Student Scholarship Program has been supported mostly by Farming Systems Kenya organization together with is staff. Also the program receives support from individuals, well-wishers and corporate institutions.
Selection criteria
- A student must be enrolled in a school secondary school,college or University
- A student must have qualified his/her previous exams .The minimal grade for high school is C+
- A student must be from a needy family that is unable to support secondary, college or university education
- The scholarship is open to all public secondary, colleges and universities
- The fund targets bright students from poor backgrounds and vulnerable society. This includes orphans, children from single parents, children whose parents have dismal income and limited livelihood option and children with special needs e.g. disabled.
